In early 2012, the latest version of the Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, will come pre-installed on several HTC smartphones, including the recently announced HTC Rezound.
HTC UK released the information on its Facebook page, and listed the phones that will receive the upgrade: the?HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G.
Reaction on the Facebook page was not of unanimous joy and encouragement; rather, some users?expressed distress at what they considered further fragmentation, an issue that has long plagued Android. (Also, many of them wanted ICS on their Desires HDs!) But with Ice Cream Sandwich, naysayers may have to eat their words, as msnbc.com's?Wilson Rothman predicts it will be the mobile OS that ensures Google's dominance:
But Ice Cream Sandwich not only meets iOS 5 on many levels ? tabbed browsing, screen grabbing, spell checking ? it's got a barrel of one-ups: You can place and re-size widgets on your home screen for immediate information, without digging into apps. You can organize favorite people into an easy-access folder. You can visually track your mobile data usage. You can unlock your phone with face recognition. And though iOS 5 brings in-camera photo editing to the iPhone, Ice Cream Sandwich does too, with way more ways to tweak those pixels.
We'll see ICS in action soon, with the Nov.17 arrival of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone that will have the new OS.?
