Federer, Nadal, SWilliams reach 4th round (AP)

WIMBLEDON, England ? Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams ? players with a combined 12 Wimbledon titles ? all won in straight sets Saturday to move into the fourth round and keep up their pursuit of even more championship trophies at the All England Club.

Six-time champion Federer beat David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to move closer to equaling the record of seven Wimbledon singles titles held by Pete Sampras and 1880s player Willie Renshaw. Two-time winner and defending champion Rafael Nadal committed only three unforced errors in a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 6-0 victory over Gilles Muller, a 92nd-ranked wild card from Luxembourg.

Williams, chasing a third straight title and fifth overall in her comeback from nearly a year out with serious health problems, served 10 aces in beating 26th-seeded Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-2.

Another former champion, 2004 winner Maria Sharapova, also reached the round of 16, downing Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-3.

Other winners included top-ranked woman Caroline Wozniacki, former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro and last year's runner-up Tomas Berdych.

The sun came out and the roof stayed open on Centre Court as the tournament neared completion of all third-round matches in time for the traditional rest day on Sunday. Monday's schedule will feature all men's and women's fourth-round matches, the busiest day in Grand Slam tennis.

Federer was broken once in the first set but dominated the rest of the way on Centre Court against Nalbandian, the 2002 Wimbledon runner-up from Argentina. Nalbandian received treatment on his right thigh several times but showed no visible sign of injury.

It was the 19th career meeting between the two, with Federer now leading 11-8.

"A guy who can beat me eight times knows how to do it nine times, and that's why I'm really pleased to come through," said Federer, whose only wobble came when he blew an easy smash on his first match point.

Federer, who lost to Berdych in the quarterfinals in 2010, said he is playing better than last year. He hasn't dropped a set so far.

"Maybe I'm just a bit more confident on my serve," he said. "And then obviously more relaxed on the baseline and on the return, and it seems like it's working. But it's only the first week, and I hope I can keep it going."

Nadal, who has met Federer in three finals, put on a masterful display on Court 1. In a match suspended because of darkness after the first set Friday, Nadal never lost serve against Muller ? the last player other than Federer to beat the Spaniard at Wimbledon, in the second round in 2005.

Nadal, who saved two break points in the first set, had no unforced errors Saturday in the second set. Muller managed to stay even until he sliced a backhand into the net after a long rally to give Nadal a 6-5 edge in the tiebreaker. The Spaniard closed the set on the next point with a forehand winner, then won six straight games, finishing with an ace.

It's the first time Nadal has advanced to the round of 16 here without losing a set.

Nadal said he felt discomfort in his right leg, but that it was not related to the two heavy falls he took at the baseline during the match.

"I started to feel the leg a little bit more tired than usual," he said. "But I played today without problems, and now I (have) one day and a half to rest and recover. I hope it will be perfect for Monday."

That's when Nadal will face Del Potro, who beat Gilles Simon 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5), 7-5 and showed he is nearing top form after missing most of 2010 after surgery on his right wrist.

"He's a fantastic player. He's one of the best players of the world," Nadal said. "It will be a fantastic test and I have to be playing my best if I want to have chances."

Williams picked up her first straight-set win in five matches since she returned this month after being away from the tour for nearly a year because of a series of health scares, including blood clots in her lungs.

The seventh-seeded American is trying to become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1991-93 to win three consecutive titles at the All England Club.

Against Kirilenko, Williams saved the only break point she faced and put together a 32-9 edge in winners.

"The matches are getting better, my serve is getting better, so it's just getting the rhythm that I've been missing a little bit, and it's good," Williams said. "I just want to continue to serve better like I did today, and just hold on out there and just move, and just really more than anything enjoy myself and stay focused."

Williams next faces 2007 Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli, the ninth-seeded Frenchwoman who beat Flavia Pennetta 5-7, 6-4, 9-7.

Sharapova, the only champion in the women's draw other than the Williams sisters, struggled with her game but still progressed relatively easily against Zakopalova. The fifth-seeded Russian ? watched by her fiance, New Jersey Nets guard Sasha Vujacic ? had 21 unforced errors and four double-faults in an inconsistent baseline performance in the wind on Court 2.

But, after falling behind 3-1 in the second set, Sharapova lifted her game to win five games in a row to finish off the 35th-ranked Czech player.

Sharapova hasn't reached the semifinals since 2006. She will next face 20th-seeded Peng Shuai of China, who beat Melinda Czink of Hungary 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Wozniacki, still looking for her first Grand Slam title, swept Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3, 6-2 to make the fourth round for the third straight year. Wimbledon is the only major championship in which the Dane has not reached at least the quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Francesca Schiavone, the 2010 French Open champion, lost to Tamira Paszek of Austria in a three-set marathon ? 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Berdych, the sixth-seeded Czech, needed only seven points to complete a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 win over Alex Bogomolov Jr. of the U.S.. The match had been suspended because of rain with Berdych leading 4-3, 15-0 in the third set Friday.

Berdych will next play 10th-seeded Mardy Fish, the last American man left in the tournament. He advanced when Robin Haase retired at 1-1 in the fourth set because of injuries. Fish was up two sets to one, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2.

Ninth-seeded Gael Monfils lost to 93rd-ranked Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Kubot, who won three qualifying matches to get into the main draw, is the first Pole to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon since Wojtek Fibak in 1981.

No. 18 Ana Ivanovic, a former top-ranked player and 2008 French Open champion, was knocked out by Petra Cetkovska, 6-2, 7-6 (0).

This comedic masterpiece by one of America's legendary filmmaking geniuses is a fitting companion to "Paris, Je T'Aime" and like a fine wine should be savored by Allen's legion of loyal cinephiles.

Gil still believes in magic and Golden Ages and idolizes the writers and artists of the Lost Generation the way some boys worship Kobe Bryant and Peyton Manning.

Woody Allen's unhurried tribute to the art, passion and power of the written word and to Paris is fabulous. His best film in a decade.

"Midnight in Paris" is a bonbon to ease the craving for Allen's earlier, funnier films.

Though Wilson is considerably younger, blonder, more handsome and more Gentile than the Woody we know, he's somehow a natural in the role anyway.

A charming, lighthearted little lark of a film.

MINOT, North Dakota (CNN) -- Summer flooding in Minot hit record levels Friday as the Souris River tied the all-time high of 1,558 feet set in 1881, according to the National Weather Service.The river is forecast to surge more than 6 feet higher than the old record as waters rush into the area, officials said.The rush of water prompted overflowing of a lake near the city, they said, exacerbating the region's flood concerns.Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman has said that no new evacuations have been ordered, even though "the flows coming into Lake Darling are reaching the lake quicker and at a greater volume than predicted.""Due to this, Lake Darling has increased its outflow," the mayor said -- increasing flooding in the floodplain, though not to a point that it yet changes the "inundation zone."About 12,000 residents have evacuated their homes, according to Minot Fire Department Capt. Dean Lenertz. Zimbelman and North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple congratulated residents for an organized and efficient evacuation, with Dalrymple saying it had "gone extremely well."Water has been overtopping the city's dikes since Wednesday, which are leaking in some places.Dalrymple said that "all agencies are engaged" statewide in addressing the issue. BOSTON ? Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger was captured near Los Angeles after 16 years on the run that embarrassed the FBI and exposed the bureau's corrupt relationship with its underworld informants.

After an international manhunt, the FBI finally caught the 81-year-old Bulger on Wednesday at an apartment in Santa Monica, Calif., along with longtime girlfriend Catherine Greig, just days after the government began circulating pictures of her on daytime TV in a new campaign to find the fugitive crime boss.

The arrest was based on a tip from the campaign, the FBI said without giving details.

FBI agents put the apartment under surveillance on Wednesday afternoon and, employing a ruse officials would not explain, lured Bulger out and arrested him without incident, authorities said. The couple were using the aliases Charles and Carol Gasko.

Bulger had a $2 million reward on his head and rose to No. 1 on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list after Osama bin Laden was killed.

A variety of guns and a large amount of cash were found in the apartment, the FBI said. Federal investigators declined to say how Bulger got enough money to live on.

"Although there are those who have doubted our resolve at times over the years, it has never wavered," said Richard DesLauriers, agent in the charge of the FBI's Boston office. "We followed every lead. We explored every possibility, and when those leads ran out, we did not sit back and wait for the phone to ring."

The model for the ruthless gangland boss played by Jack Nicholson in the 2006 Martin Scorsese movie "The Departed," Bulger was wanted for 19 murders. One victim was shot between the eyes in a parking lot at his country club in Oklahoma. Another was gunned down in broad daylight on a South Boston street to prevent him from talking about the killing in Oklahoma. Others were taken out for running afoul of Bulger's gambling enterprises.

"He left a trail of bodies," said Tom Duffy, a retired state police major in Massachusetts. "You did not double-cross him. If you did, you were dead."

At the same time he was boss of the Winter Hill Gang, South Boston's murderous Irish mob, Bulger was an FBI informant, supplying information about the rival New England Mafia. But he fled in January 1995 when a retired agent tipped him off that he was about to be indicted.

That set off a major scandal at the FBI, which was found to have an overly cozy relationship with its underworld informants, protecting mob figures and allowing them to carry out their murderous business as long as they were supplying useful information.

A congressional committee, in a draft report issued in 2003, blasted the FBI for its use of Bulger and other criminals as informants, calling it "one of the greatest failures in the history of federal law enforcement."

Patricia Donahue, wife of alleged Bulger victim Michael Donahue, said she could not believe it when she heard the news.

"I actually never thought I would see this day. I thought the man was dead," she said. Her husband, a construction worker and truck driver, was killed in 1982 in a hit on an underworld figure who was cooperating with investigators. Donahue had given the target of the hit a ride home that day.

"I am very satisfied to know that the person pulled the trigger to end my husband's life is going to go to jail," said Donahue, 66.

Bulger lived on the third floor of the Princess Eugenia, a three-story, 28-unit building of one- and two-bedroom apartments three blocks from a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Neighbors said the couple did not stand out.

Barbara Gluck, who lived on the same floor as the couple, said she didn't know their names but recognized them from photos on the Internet after their arrest. She said they lived in the apartment for "a good couple of years."

Gluck described Greig as "sweet and lovely" and said they would have "girl talk" when they ran into each other in the building. Bulger became angry whenever he saw the two of them talking, and would say, "Stop talking to her," Gluck said.

"He was nasty," she added. At one point, Greig said Bulger had a "rage issue," the neighbor said.

Bulger and Greig were scheduled to appear in Los Angeles federal court Thursday. He faces federal charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, narcotics distribution, extortion and money laundering. Greig, 60, is charged with harboring a fugitive.

The arrest brings an end to a manhunt in which the FBI received reported sightings of Bulger and Greig from all over the U.S. and parts of Europe. In many of those sightings, investigators could not confirm whether it was Bulger.

On Monday, the FBI announced a new publicity campaign that asked people, particularly women, to be on the lookout for Greig. The 30-second ad started running Tuesday in 14 TV markets to which Bulger may have ties and was to air during programs popular with women roughly Greig's age, including "The View" and "Regis and Kelly."

The campaign pointed out that the blond-haired Greig had plastic surgery several times before going on the lam and was known to frequent beauty salons. It also noted that Greig, a former dental hygienist, had impeccable oral hygiene and perfect teeth as a result of monthly visits to the dentist.

The FBI was hoping that a patron or employee of a dental office, hospital, manicurist, beauty salon or other business would remember seeing Greig.

The hunt for Bulger touched the highest level of Massachusetts politics. Bulger's younger brother, William, was one of the most powerful politicians in the state, leading the Massachusetts Senate for 17 years and later serving as president of the University of Massachusetts. He resigned the post in 2003 under political pressure.

William Bulger told a congressional committee that he spoke to his brother by phone shortly after he went on the run but had no idea about his whereabouts.

He declined to comment to The Boston Globe about his brother's arrest.

"Whitey Bulger has left behind in the Boston area a lot of victims and a lot of pain, and I think for them and for justice in general, it's a great day," said William Christie, an attorney for the families of two alleged Bulger victims.

Bulger, nicknamed "Whitey" for his shock of bright platinum hair, grew up in a gritty South Boston housing project and went on to become Boston's most notorious gangster.

Along with Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi, he led the Winter Hill Gang, which ran loansharking, gambling and drug rackets in the Boston area. U.S. Attorney Donald K. Stern said in 2000 that the two were "responsible for a reign of intimidation and murder that spanned 25 years."

Prosecutors said he went on the run after being warned by John Connolly Jr., a then-retired FBI agent in Boston who had made Bulger an informant 20 years earlier. Connolly was convicted of racketeering in 2002 for protecting Bulger and Flemmi, also an FBI informant.

Bulger provided the Boston FBI with information on his gang's main rival in an era when bringing down the Mafia was one of the bureau's top national priorities.

The Boston FBI office was sharply criticized when the extent of Bulger's alleged crimes and his cozy relationship with the FBI became public in the late 1990s.

On Thursday, Bulger's picture on the Ten Most Wanted list was spanned by a red banner that said "Captured." Greig's photo carried the same banner.

John Weiskopf, who lives across the street from Bulger's Santa Monica building, said he recognized Bulger when he saw his photo on the Internet.

"I said, `Holy Smokes,'" he said.

"From what I understand, these were really gracious, easygoing people," Weiskopf said. "They don't come out with fangs. They just blended in."

Duffy, the retired state police major in Massachusetts, said people in South Boston wrongly saw Bulger as a Robin Hood figure who protected the neighborhood from criminals.

"There was this horrendous misconception that he kept drugs out of South Boston, when actually, he controlled the drug trade in South Boston," Duffy said. "If you were a drug dealer, you didn't operate in South Boston without paying him."

For Bulger and his gang, "killing people was their first option," he said.

Along with the federal charges in Boston, Bulger faces murder charges in Oklahoma in the killing of a businessman and in Miami in the killing of a gambling executive. Both slayings took place in the early 1980s. Both Florida and Oklahoma have the death penalty.

PERUGIA, Italy (AFP) ? Amanda Knox and her lover Raffaele Sollecito on Saturday turned to a convicted child killer and a mobster in their bid to overturn their convictions for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher.

Both men told the court hearing the pair's appeal that Knox and Sollecito had nothing to do with the 21-year-old's death in 2007.

Mario Alessi, serving a sentence for killing a child, told the hearing that a friend of co-defendant Rudy Guede had killed the Briton to silence her after she resisted a sexual assault.

The convict said Guede had spoken to him about the case during an exercise session at Viterbo prison where they shared a cell.

Guede allegedly told him Kercher was murdered by his friend, who was not officially identified.

"Rudy told me he tried to help the young woman (Meredith Kercher) after his friend wounded her with a small knife with an ivory-coloured grip," Alessi told the court.

The friend reportedly then told Guede: "What are you doing? We have to kill her if not we'll end up in prison because of her."

Alessi earlier made the same allegations in a deposition to police.

When questioned by Perugia prosecutors Guede, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison in a separate trial for his role in the murder, denied ever having made such statements.

Camorra boss Luciano Aviello, meanwhile, accused his own brother of the killing, telling the court his sibling killed Meredith Kercher in an attempt to steal a painting.

Knox, from Seattle, Washington, was sentenced in December 2009 to 26 years in prison for the murder of Kercher with whom she shared a house in Perugia.

Sollecito, Knox's boyfriend at the time, was sentenced to 25 years for his part in the murder. Both are now appealing their convictions.

Prosecutors said they killed Kercher when a drug-fuelled sex game turned violent on the night of November 1, 2007.

She was found semi-nude in a pool of blood under a duvet with multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Ivorian Guede was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to 30 years in jail, but the appeal court later reduced his term to 16 years.

At the court's request Guede is to be heard as a witness on June 27.

Knox and Sollecito were convicted in large part because of traces of Knox's DNA found on the knife that killed Kercher and Sollecito's DNA on a bra clasp.

As part of the appeal, fresh DNA tests were ordered on the weapon and the clasp.

Last month Knox attended the first hearing in a slander trial in which she is charged with falsely accusing Italian police of beating and intimidating her during questioning.

Amanda's father and her mother were also ordered to stand trial for alleging their daughter was beaten by Italian police in an interview they gave to Britain's Sunday Times in 2008.

Art and history as seen through the eyes and mind of perhaps the most idiosyncratic filmmaker of all time.

They emerged with a film that is supposed to be an art documentary, but is really a kind of immersive fever dream and time machine.

Spectacular and absorbing,coinciding with the publication of Jean Auel's "The Land of Painted Caves."

Always the philosopher, Herzog is not content to simply document what is inside the cave. Rather, he uses the images as a launching point for a series of essentially unanswerable questions

In the end, the 3D is a distraction; I'd prefer more off-the-wall mini-profiles of odd characters, like the circus juggler turned pal?ontologist, to tracking shots of stalactites backed by a chanting soundtrack.

It's impossible to overstate the beauty of the Chauvet paintings: horses, rhinos, bison, and many other species flow around the curved walls of the caves...

Herzog's documentary on the wondrous Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc is a true dazzler in the dark.

Music Copyright 101: The Basic Legal Lingo | DIY Musician

Understanding music law.

Even career musicians get timid when it comes to talking about intellectual property law. They may?know the difference between the Lydian and Mixolydian modes like the backs of their hands, but mechanical licenses? DPDs? Derivative works? You might as well be speaking Greek (unless you?re Greek, in which case you might as well be speaking Mandarin.)

However, as self-guided success stories and full-time DIY careers become more common, it?s increasingly important that you understand how the music business used to work, how it does work (kinda), and what changes are probably on the horizon.

It?s just jargon.

Like any other field, IP law has its own lingo. Once you familiarize yourself with the terms, everything else will seem less scary. I highly recommend a book by Donald S. Passman called ?All You Need to Know About the Music Business.? Now in its 7th edition, this book has been kept up-to-date as the industry changed drastically throughout the last decade.

When I first started working at CD Baby, I read this book over the course of a couple weeks and it profoundly changed how I thought about the music business. If you?ve read any similar books that you would highly recommend, please let me know in the comments section below.

I Need Help Getting My Ex Girlfriend Back

The last time I was with my girlfriend, she broke up with me. I know it was my fault. I really did something to really piss her off. Yet, I have totally let go of it. Now, I need help getting my ex girlfriend back. I still love her and no matter what I do, I am really pulled back to her heart. I tried to really stop what I feel because I think that she has already moved on. Yet, somewhere deep within my heart, there is this longing to have her back.

In order to achieve my goal, I asked help from her friends. I asked them if she is still mad or what else I could do in order to stop her anger for me. They helped a bit, but still she seems to have made up her mind and her friends have done nothing to influence her decision.

Since I am close to her family, I did my best to talk to her parents and face them. I asked them to accept my apologies and they understood my feelings. Yet, just like her friends, her family has not influenced her decision in any way.

It was at that moment that I should stop saying, I need help getting my ex girlfriend back. In fact, I don't need help from anyone. All I need is to talk to her and clear things. No matter how her friends or family will influence her decision, she will still follow her heart. When we talked things out and tried to settle everything, it was finally settled. All she was asking for was an apology. She also wanted me to explain what I did.

Asking for help from others simply shows my cowardice. I will never make her love me again even if all others around her ask her to. Yet, when I talked to her and we settled everything, things were back to normal. Help is a good thing, when you feel helpless. Yet, in this case, the very first possible move is to talk to her. Before I decided to ask for help from others, I should have talked to her as the first option. Back then, I was just too scared that she would say no and my dreams of having her back will go down the tubes. Now, things are going very smoothly and our lines of communication are more open. This is the real help that I need- something that only I can do for myself.

You've made it through the hardest part, now get her back.
